Dear families,
What a fun Friday we had at the Wixom Talent Show! So many wonderful acts and great kids giving their best on stage! The audience absolutely enjoyed it!
This week in our classroom we will continue Reading Workshop, we will look for literary language in our books. We will notice when authors play with words and how authors use comparisons in their descriptions.
In Writing Workshop we will continue to work on opinion writing. The students will: learn how to keep their audience in mind when writing their letters, begin using an opinion writing checklist, and how to use paragraphs to tell about more than one part of the story. Students have begun sending letters to classmates, soon we will write to other second graders from Wixom.
We have begun Unit 6 in math. Last week we learned how to use a diagram to solve a number story. This week we will start working on writing our story problems for addition and subtraction. We will practice solving two-step number stories, and students will learn how to solve partial sums addition (adding tens and ones first).
We have begun a new unit of Social Studies on Producers and Consumers. We will new some new vocabulary: producer, consumers, wants, needs and resources. We will begin learning about how paper, ice cream and other goods are produced.
In Phonics, we will work on short e and long e. We will sort patterns with CVC, CVVC, using ea (each) and ee (jeep).
Please remember to use i-ready for lessons at home on the computer for reading and math.
